  Hi Guillem,

I am devastated we have reached the impending departure of Xabi I don't think the full story behind the scenes will ever reach public ears but I now only hope that Mascherano doesn't follow him out the door, it's going to be difficult enough replacing one world class centre midfield player.

Contrary to several posters hoping we get some of Real Madrid's players I am not too keen on the idea, I feel that this would be giving them one of our best players and taking their less desired ones in return. I knw you can't judge a side on one or two games but we humped that team 4-0 last season and I didn't see a single player in white that evening I would like in our Liverpool team. It says a lot that Real want these players replaced

  LFC move to a 4-4-2

Torres - Villa

Riera - Mascherano - Gerrard - Benayoun

Insua - Skrtel - Carragher - Johnson

Reina

  Hi Guillem

LFC estimated proceeds from Sales:
Alonso (28m), Arbeloa (4m), Dossena (4M)... total GBP 36M.
Sell one or two more fringe players we could raise GBP 40M.

One name comes to mind... David Villa.

Bring it!

  Hi Guillem

Ive just about accepted Xabi is going to leave, what baffles me is Rafa's mentality. It is obvious that LFC have little money to spend, but if Rafa wants/needs money for new transfers then why have we agreed to lowering Xabi's price tag? We are in a strong position, Xabi has 3 yrs left and its the world cup next year. If Rafa is happy with the squad and isnt intending on signing anyone else, then why would he sell Arbeloa for a pityful £3.5m? Surely it would be better to keep both players, until next year where Rafa will maintain a strong squad and prepare for their exits next year. Instead it now appears we will get £30m for two players who had key roles last season, which is not alot this summer due to the inflated prices!

  Hi Guillem,
as in the the movie terminator 'The Future Is yet To be written' or something like that, but the future looks bleak as Alonso looks set to leave the anfield for pasture's new,
but i say this with good memories WILL (ALONSO) leave anfield as a legend or was he on the verge of becoming one!

Well as with Michael Owen a few year's ago it was all but set in stone all that was needed was owen commitment but he failed to stay on the righteous path because he thought the path to real real madrid was the path to glory.
But as like Owen,Alonso looks set for the same cross roads in life but will he choose the right path as we know his head has been turned just like owen's was.
His transfer request seem like not,but he's only human.

  Hi Guillem

Thanks for another great article.

Do you think the departure of Arbeloa and now the highly likely departure of Alonso will make Reina and Torres consider their long term futures at the club?

  Hi Guillem,

Just a little bit of a great passage i came across....
with ALONSO going our chances of winning the league nose dive somewhat without him but he chooses to go anyway, just when we are on the verge of greatness.
(The worst soldier is the one who leaves on the eve of battle knowing full well him not being there may give victory to the enemy).

There was an old man called tommy who was sent far away from his home to fight for his king and his country.

Worring times for liverpool just when greatness is within the team's reach

Alonso leaving does not spell the end, We will be stronger in other areas like up front and on the wings if he does go and there are players out there who can do a good job in his place.

  Hi,two questions Guillem.
First if Alonso stays will Benitez target any other players.
If Alonso goes who will Benitez try and replace him with and who else could he try and bring in.
Thank You

WE DONT NEED A DISGRUNTED PLAYER IN XA. SELL HIM AND GET A POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT. LFC MADE A BIG MISTAKE FOR NOT ACTING FAST ENOUGH ON GARETH BARRY. FOR THE RECORDS, XA SHOULD ASK OWEN WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM WHEN HE LEFT LFC FOR THE SAME REAL MADRID IN 2005. LFC IS BIGGER THAN ONE PLAYER. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

It is only a matter of time before real goes bust... will the Spanish government be allowed to bail these clowns out time and time again.

Lee, I have a bad memory.

I think the biggest problem is that there is nobody of his class to replace him with. We are going to have to change our style of play, the system worked best when he was pulling the strings in the middle.

I would try and get villa and move SG back into midfield, but do not really want that to happen due to his understanding with Torres. The other option could be Sneijder, but again, he is no XA. I have a horrible feeling he may try and buy Jenas. Depressed myself with that thought pub sounds good!

It's simple. Alonso wants to go, but wants to keep his image intact so denies the transfer request. The club have become frustrated with him so have made it public.

Let him go, if he thinks he'll go onto better things and be loved like he was at Liverpool he has another thing coming. He's the flavour of the month. Where were Real when he came to us? Where were Real when he had just come off the back of a dreadful season last summer?

Adios Alonso.

  Hi Guillem.

Thanks for another good article. Keep up the good work! I am a Manchester United fan and it has been suggested that United want to buy David Silva this summer, first of all, is this true? If so, have there been any developments? Do you think the transfer is likely?

Also, Sir Alex Ferguson has recently stated that he wont be buying anymore players this summer although he has a large transfer budget (after the sale on ronaldo). What is your opnion on this?

Benitez is working for the Club and Alonso not only wants to leave the Club but have a golden handshake as well! It does not work that way, buddy!

As a fan, I would like to see him leave if his heart is elsewhere and have the funds collected asap for the possible targets that could be under threat from another PL club. Benitez openly stated his desire to keep Alonso and I am sure the latter knows it. Life is life and please move on because I'd rather see the team do well than him personally! That's a FACT!

I am excited with the possible tagets coming on board and looking forward to a successful season. In Rafa I Trust!

Hey Mick T....remind me mate, what was the score the last time you lot came down to White Hart Lane?

Seriously though, while everyone's asking Guillem who is being lined up as a replacement....tell us who you guys want.

Lester Muller below mentions several players in his comment below, but these are all very different players to Alonso, none of them are CM organisers. Even the priority, Aquilani, is a different kind of player to Xabi isn't he? (correct me if I'm wrong here please) I would have thought De Rossi would be more of a suitable replacement.

How many players like Xabi are there out there? I keep seeing Liverpool fans mentioning Javi Martinez, but he's more of a Gerrard box to box player than a distributor/organiser....

  Hi Guillem

Whilst Alonso's departure now seems inevitable the manner of his leaving is convoluted and difficult. The Liverpool Echo, where news of Alonso's 'transfer request' first broke, states that that LFC have not confirmed this. Yet, you are now saying that the news has been sourced from the club itself whilst Alonso's "entourage" are denying it. I can see LFC want to bring negotiations to a swift conclusion but are they forcing a transfer request because Alonso has a sell on bonus fee in his contract? If so was this factored into LFC's £30m price? Or is Alonso prepared to forego this bonus? Regardless there has been a lot of tactical positioning by Alonso for the last couple of months and I see his departure becoming acrimonious.

I really think Liverpool should stop buying Spanish players and in the future concentrate on other European countries, Rafa has bought from spain because he has a lot of friends there, he has now been in England for five years and there is now a greater knowledge in his brain of players outside of Spain. Nothing against Spanish players, it's just that Liverpool have lost to many who want to go back home, the weather here is not to their liking, and you cannot go on investing in players only to see them move when they reach their peak, it's not fair on the club doing the investing, and Alonso, although he has been here for 5 years only recently signed a five year contract. Enough is Enough...

  Thanks for the updates.

Big problem for us is that we play our first game in 17days, ok only Spurs but still first game (sorry Lee, lol), and this needs to be resolved one way or another.

We all know XA wants to go to Madrid, but it would be nice if LFC and XA came out and said something along the lines of "Yes XA wants to go to Madrid, but LFC value him at X and rm only say Y" IF XA then came out with "I understand LFC stance and will stay if valuation not met" or words to that effect. I know it won't happen, but the worst in all things like this is that the most important people, the fans, are left in the dark. I also think the tide is changing in fans attitude to Xabi, get it sorted all 3 of you for OUR clubs sake.

  Hi Guillem,

Considering the players that Real Madrid are trying to offload, do you know or have you heard why Rafa is not considering trying to get some of Real Madrid's players in exchange.

Van der Vaat - Replaces Alonso as ball playing centre mid

Huntelaar / van Nistelrooy - Support Striker for Torres

Sneijder - Top quality attacking midfielder which I believe Liverpool need.

It seems strange to me that we could potentially get some good international players in exchange and surely it would suit Real as they would get players off their books and not need to shell out as much money.

Regards.

Hi Guillam,if alonso does leave, who would we purchase between silva, aquilani, martinez and cattermole?also, would negredo be part of the deal? Tx 4 a very informed site-Lester Müller(LIVERPOOL SUPPORTER)

So basically you actually don't know what is going on with Alonso and are just covering all the bases, so you can then come out and say you were right all along?

I used to listen/read all that you had to say because I thought you were informed, that sadly has now ended.

I don't trust a word of what comes out from you now and you are now up there with the English Tabloids in terms of reliability.

  Guillem.

Liverpool FC need to make it a priority that they will receive all funds for the sale of Xabi Alonso.

We already have a limited transfer budget at the moment, so why on earth would liverpool consider taking instalments.

Any ideas on a possible replacement Guillem? I feel there is no player on the same wave length as Xabi.

I will seriously question Benitez in this transfer market, that's for certain, I'm afraid to say If do not win a trophy this season it will be BYE BYE Benitez.

  Hi Guillem,

Once the Alonso deal is completed within the next day or so who do you think would be an ideal replacement for Alonso?

There is talk of David Silva joining Liverpool...what is the likelihood of this deal going through?

Finally as i have said in previous messages why has it taken Alonso so long to come out and say he wants to leave(very disappointed in the way he has handled this). I just hope we get rid ASAP and bring in someone who wants to represent the club.

  Hi Guillem,

As a liverpool supporter im very sad our best ball player is moving on ,if he does indeed, but from day one i seen this coming of course xabi wants back to spain and to suceed in his native league la liga, like most world class players will.

He has giving us 5 great years of service, and best of luck xabi,i just want liverpool fc to push forward and purchase a decent replacement because i dont want to see gerrard back in the middle.
Any ideas on replacements, non italian. Not much quality out there.

Regards.

Guillem - if alonso does go, who do you understand rafa's target replacements to be?
img sbf_7  | 2009-07-30 15:19:58  |  Tadworth  |  United Kingdom
  Hi Guillem,

Has their been any development in David Silva's possible move to Manchester United? Do you feel that a deal might be agreed during the Manchester United Vs Valencia friendly in less than a weeks time? Also were a fee to be agreed between Valencia and United do you think Silva would accept the offer and make the big career step of moving to England?

Thanks again!
