On Torres, Hodgson and Liverpool
|
I was discussing yesterday the fact that I understood that Fernando Torres has not yet had the opportunity to hold a formal meeting with Roy Hodgson. There has, however, been contact between the player and new Liverpool coach: a ten minute chat during which hodgson relayed to Torres just how much he wants the striker to stay at Anfield. Hodgson wanted to meet the striker in South Africa, but it was decided that it would be better to postpone formal talks and a face to face meeting until after the World Cup. Torres will now meet his new manager at the earliest opportunity and is eager to learn of the clubs plans for the future.
The severity of Torres groin injury be known tuesday. The Spain striker faces a difficult few weeks, whatever the outcome and I sense that if he does face a long lay-off, the break might just ease some of the pressure and help focus his mind, with a view to recuperating fully - both physically and mentally - and helping Liverpool fight for a top four place. However, looming in the background there are always the doubts provoked by unfulfilled promises of new investment at the club. |
